How to make Skype work on older Macs.
Try this with skype 6.15 & Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8:
1. Quit Skype
2. Go to Applications Folder in Finder and Right Click on the Skype icon
3. Select “Show Package Contents”
4. Click on the Content/Info.plist file
5. Scroll Down until you locate Locate the 3 lines (Notice: I had to used round parentheses in place of the angular ones present in the Info.plist):
(/array)
(key)CFBundleVersion(/key)
(string)6.15.0.335(/string)
6. Replace the version number with the current one:
(/array)
(key)CFBundleVersion(/key)
(string)8.13.0.2(/string)
7. Then go to File and click on Save, or press Command+S
8. Re-open Skype and it should work.
Please Notice
Each and any time you Skype updates the version you will get the message that a new version is available and Skype will not launch. Then you will have to change again the version number. To get the correct version number:
1. download the current available Skype version for mac (you may follow the link in the Skype message window)
2. get the version number from directly from the .dmg file name (ex. Skype-8.13.0.2.dmg) and use it in the info.plist file (see step 6)
3. Erase the .dmg file, you don’t need to install it.
If you want to avoid this go to Skype-Preferences-General, and uncheck the option: Always keep Skype up to date.
Thank for watching.
